Donde Carlos Restaurant, a beloved family-run Colombian dining destination at 143 Goldhawk Road, W12, sought to elevate its guest experience and street presence while honouring its vibrant heritage. The client’s vision was clear: create a welcoming, contemporary space that seamlessly blends comfort, accessibility, and sustainability, ensuring both loyal locals and new visitors feel at home. Unique requirements included enhancing the façade, improving ventilation and comfort, and upgrading access—all while respecting the character of the iconic Victorian mid-terrace building.

ARCHITECTURE
ARTES London’s approach focused on subtle yet impactful architectural interventions that enhance both form and function. The design introduces a retractable awning for the entrance, providing sun and rain protection while adding a luxe touch to the street-facing elevation. Discreet ventilation grilles and an extended kitchen extract duct were integrated to improve air quality and comfort, ensuring technical performance without compromising the historic fabric.
The new handrail and refreshed anti-slip tiling on the steps offer improved accessibility, while material choices and detailing echo the original Victorian charm—hallmarks of a British residential architect with a passion for sustainable architecture.

INTERIOR + FIT-OUT DESIGN
Inside, the experience is defined by biophilic interiors and bespoke craftsmanship. Luxe materials—timber, natural finishes, and elegant slatted enclosures—create a warm, inviting atmosphere. The spatial layout remains intuitive, with clear zones for dining and relaxation. Wellness is woven throughout: upgraded ventilation ensures fresh air, while new condenser units provide energy-efficient climate control for year-round comfort.

SUSTAINABILITY + ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN

Eco-friendly strategies include the use of responsibly sourced timber for the new bin enclosure and energy-efficient mechanical systems that reduce operational costs and environmental impact. Enhanced ventilation and condenser units contribute to healthier indoor air quality, supporting both staff and guests.
